Job Description
Mechanical Technician – Battery Systems (R&D, Shopfloor, Assembly & Installation)
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly hands-on Mechanical Technician with exposure to battery
systems (packs/BESS enclosures). The role involves supporting R&D development, shop
floor assembly, packing, and field installation. The candidate will work closely with
Electrical/BMS teams to ensure proper mechanical–electrical integration, routing, and safe
installation of battery systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. R&D Support & Battery Prototype Development
Support development of battery packs, modules, and BESS enclosures.
Build prototypes and pilot units as per mechanical and electrical integration
requirements.
Interpret 2D drawings and 3D models for accurate execution.
Implement design changes (hole positions, cut-outs, mounting provisions for BMS,
busbars, etc.).
Coordinate closely with Electrical team for component placement, cable routing, and
clearances.
Provide feedback on manufacturability, serviceability, and safety.
2. Shop Floor Assembly & Mechanical Tooling
Perform assembly of battery enclosures, racks, and structural systems.
Handle sheet metal parts, covers, frames, and internal mounting structures.
Independently operate mechanical tools (hand tools, power tools, fabrication
equipment).
Ensure correct torqueing, alignment, and fastening for safety-critical assemblies.
Maintain discipline and productivity on the shop floor.
3. Mechanical–Electrical Integration
Work closely with Electrical/BMS teams during assembly.
Support cable routing, harness fixing, gland mounting, and connector fitment.
Ensure proper spacing, insulation clearances, and protection for HV/LV components.
Assist in mounting of BMS, busbars, contactors, and related components.
Avoid interference issues and ensure serviceability access.
4. Packing & Dispatch (Battery Systems)
Ensure safe packing of battery systems considering sensitivity and transport risks.
Use proper materials (foam, EPDM gaskets, insulation protection, wooden crates).
Verify all mechanical and electrical accessories are included before dispatch.
Follow handling and safety guidelines specific to battery systems.
5. Installation & Field Support
Travel to customer sites for battery system installation and integration.
Perform on-site mechanical assembly, alignment, and structural fixing.
Coordinate with Electrical team for commissioning support.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues affecting system performance or safety.
Ensure proper installation practices as per safety standards.
6. Quality, Safety & Coordination
Follow SOPs, safety practices, and battery handling guidelines.
Perform pre-dispatch and post-installation inspections.
Maintain build logs, installation reports, and issue tracking.
Coordinate with R&D, Electrical, and Project teams for timely delivery.
Identify risks and suggest improvements in design and assembly.
